Eco Parcs - Ecological nature villages combined with sustainable tourism

Tourism is booming, and it brings in a lot of revenue. However, on the downside, the natural environment is being destroyed with the concrete buildings, the over-use of water for hotels, holiday camps, golf courses, etc. that leads to water shortages.

More electricity for air-conditioning, electric ovens, water heaters etc. is needed. The tourist industry is one of the biggest consumers of electricity. This electricity comes from nuclear power plants, which, in turn, damage the entire ecosystem.

Waste management has pushed sewage plants to the limit, with, in some cases, untreated sewage being disposed of directly into the sea and on land. Camping areas play a huge role in this respect regarding the disposal of the chemical toilets used in mobile homes, which is even more problematic.

These are the consequences of tourism:

  • Environmental damage
  • Water shortages
  • Property prices making it impossible for people to purchase homes.

We have committed ourselves to finding solutions for these problems. Thus, a sustainable, future-oriented concept came into being, one which allows for higher added-value for people, animals and Nature.

Instead of fighting against Nature, we are uniting ecological tourism with urban areas, communities and all of those that live in the local area.

 

Environmentally-friendly tourism in nature

Eco-Parcs is a unique concept where a sustainable vacation can be had side by side with the day-to-day life of an established sustainable village.

This is not just an independent ecological vacation park: here guests can participate in our autark, ecological, self-sufficient village community.

We offer self-sufficient, sustainable vacations where the environment is supported. It is not damaged. We are uniting tourism with a sustainable, ecological lifestyle. Furthermore, our guests learn about the sustainable modes of transport, ecological gardening, from planting to harvesting without the usage of chemicals, food preparation, baking. It is all about living as one with Nature, without damaging it.

 

Completely environment-friendly in order to promote the eco-systems

Healthy living while on vacation

Almost everything that is offered in the Eco-Parc in terms of food, personal care, cleaning agents, detergents etc. will have been grown in the park, and then harvested and manufactured naturally by the villagers – to the extent that this is possible. What will not be produced by ourselves, or cannot be produced due to the climate of the season, then will have to be bought from outside. However, anything bought from outside the Eco-Village must be grown or produced naturally, without the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers or other harmful substances.

The healthiest, environmentally-friendly, most sustainable option will be chosen.

 

Mobility and Modes of Transport  

The entire holiday area is a car-free zone! Loading/unloading upon arrival/departure is possible. For guests, there is a private, guarded car-park on the edge of the village. Campers may enter/depart near the main entrance, but otherwise they may not drive through the vacation area. Exceptions will include other suppliers, equipment deliveries. Bicycle riding, e-bikes, as well as children's vehicles such as kettcars, scooters, tricycles, etc. are allowed on the village grounds. We can rent guests e-bikes, with trailers/children's trailers, as needed. It is also planned to rent self-charging electric cars for ecologically sustainable transport during the time our guests are with us.

 

Permaculture

Permaculture will dominate the gardens and intermediate areas of the entire complex. Permaculture is a self-regulating and self-maintaining way of cultivation, based on natural eco-systems and natural biological cycles.

It is made up of various trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers, crops and ornamental plants, chosen on the principle of aid and compatibility.

Permaculture is a colorful mix of strong-, middle-, weak-pull plants that extract what they need from the soil, as well as plants that return what is needed to the soil.

Natural composting of leaves, 'green fertilization' and 'plant waste' also plays an important role here. A permaculture garden ensures its own survival by constantly providing for young plants with its flowers and seeds. A healthy permaculture garden does not require usage of or industrially produced chemical fertilizers, weedkillers and pesticides. Permaculture is also the healthiest way to be self-sufficient from what is in one's own garden.

 

Water-retention landscape

A water-retention landscape must not be compared with a 'normal' lake. Water-retention areas come with curved/rolling banks. They have different depth zones, various bank and aquatic plants, all of which will be planted in the direction of the main winds. This means that the water is in constant motion, thereby enriching itself with oxygen, and be self-cleaning. The water in a water-retention landscape thus remains fresh and full of vitality.

This whole area will be designed such that it is filled during the rainy season. It takes only a short time before one or more springs underneath the water-retention area emerge, which will supply the entire area with fresh water.

Thanks to the creation of a water-retention landscape, Nature blooms once again, wild animals return and a variety of insects can find their homes here again. In this way, the entire eco-system is supported.

Water-retention landscapes support the self-regulation of flora and fauna in a more natural way. It is this that is the answer to aridity, erosion and species extinction.

 

Creation of sustainable eco-jobs

A unique added-value aspect of our Eco-Parcs is the creation on sustainable, ecological jobs for those living in the Eco-Village, as well as for those living in the surrounding area.

 

Affordable housing for local workers in the Eco-Village

In the Eco-Village, we will build a number of sustainable houses (as our Cottages described) for those that work in the village. Each employee and his family will receive his own house together with a plot of land in the Eco-Village. We will employ only less well-off people, thus enabling them to acquire an affordable home that complies with the latest ecological standards.

Each employee will receive his own house with a small plot for €150 per month. Given that each house can supply its own water and electricity, this means that there are no extra fixed utility costs to be paid. In this way, affordable, ecologically sustainable housing for socially disadvantaged people from the surrounding area can be offered, together with ecologically sustainable jobs.
